CWD SUPPORTS SORSOGON PROVINCE’S CELEBRATION
October 16, 2024 — CWD attended the Kasanggayahan National Festival of Festivals Competition, held at the newly constructed Sorsogon Sports Complex. This prestigious event is one of the key highlights of the annual Kasanggayahan Festival. Contingents from across the country showcased vibrant performances that celebrated the rich cultural narratives and traditional practices of their respective regions.
The Kasanggayahan Festival is the largest celebration in the whole province. Sorsogon is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Kasanggayahan Festival which coincides with the 130th Founding Anniversary of the province, and the 455th commemoration of the first mass held in Luzon.
The celebration commenced on October 14 and is scheduled to end on October 28. This vibrant festival highlights the rich cultural heritage of the Province of Sorsogon, offering a diverse array of activities and events that showcase the province’s unique identity.
In his brief remarks, Senate President Francis “Chiz” G. Escudero expressed his gratitude to the First Lady for attending the event and extended his thanks to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his continued support to the annual competition. “Sino mag-aakala na magkakaroon tayo ng ganitong klaseng arena kung saan makakanood tayo ng iba’t ibang kasiyahan, hindi lamang sa panahon ng Kasanggayahan, kundi sa anumang okasyon ng ating lalawigan”, said Senator Escudero.
Senate President Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, together with First Lady Marie Louise “Liza” Araneta Marcos, Senator Manuel “Lito” Mercado Lapid, Second Congressional District Representative Manuel “Wowo” Fortes, Sorsogon First Congressional District Representative Bernadette “Dette” Escudero, Governor Jose Edwin “Boboy” Hamor were present in the event. Hon. Mayor Maria Ester Hamor in her message invites everyone to celebrate and experience the beauty of Sorsogon at this extraordinary festival honoring the city’s rich heritage.
The Casiguran Water District under the management of GM Engr. Eduardo P. Tejada supports the celebration and said, “Our commitment in ensuring a clean and substantial water supply for our concessionaires is our modest contribution to the success of Sorsogon City’s 50th Golden Anniversary of the Kasanggayahan Festival. We left no stone unturned if only to assure steady supply of safe water in billeting facilities within Casiguran for Kasanggayahan contingents. As we celebrate this milestone, we are proud to support the community and contribute to the vibrant spirit of this cherished event.”
The Kasanggayahan National Festival of Festivals Competition showcased incredible talent, with Cebu City claiming the championship and 4,000,000 pesos. San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, secured 1st runner-up (3,000,000 pesos), followed by Daraga, Albay (2nd runner-up, 2,000,000 pesos), Sorsogon City (3rd runner-up, 800,000 pesos), and Lapu-Lapu City (4th runner-up, 500,000 pesos). Cebu City also won Best in Moving Choreography (300,000 pesos) and Best in Uniform/Costume (200,000 pesos), while Sorsogon City earned Best in Musicality (200,000 pesos). The Festival Queen title went to San Jose Del Monte, adding 100,000 pesos to their haul. This year’s event was a vibrant celebration of culture and community.
