CWD LAUNCHES BAMBOO PROPAGATION INITIATIVE
Today, October 22, 2024 — CWD has officially begun its bamboo propagation initiative at Orok Spring, following the 3-day Kamp Kawayan Bamboo Permaculture Workshop attended by CWD representatives from September 27 to 29, 2024, at Habilin Farms in Tayabas, Quezon province.
It is known that bamboo propagation in a watershed stabilizes soil, reduces erosion, improves water quality, and aids in water conservation. It also supports biodiversity, helps sequester carbon, and provides sustainable livelihood opportunities, contributing to both environmental and economic growth in the community.
The initial goal of CWD’s bamboo propagation initiative is to plant 500 bamboo culms (cane), with ongoing weekly planting to follow. This initiative marks the first step in establishing sustainable bamboo cultivation, aimed at supporting environmental conservation, enhancing water management, and promoting ecological balance in the Casiguran watershed.
Through this effort, the Casiguran Water District under the management of GM Engr. Eduardo P. Tejada, seeks to contribute to soil stabilization, water quality improvement, and biodiversity, while also offering sustainable livelihood opportunities for the local community.
