CWD-SCWD SPEARHEADS COORDINATORS MEETING

March 7, 2025 – Preparations for 2025 Bicol Water Districts Association (BIWADA) Team Building Activity to be held at Sorsogon City on June 2, 2025 gained steam, as the designated host – Casiguran-Sorsogon City Water Districts spearheads a meeting with sports coordinators from different water districts in Bicol Region in attendance.

The meeting that started at 9:30AM was held at Sorsogon Sports Arena — the proposed venue for the said Team Building Activity. It was attended by sports coordinators from twenty-two (22) Bicol water districts.

GM Engr. Eduardo P. Tejada of Casiguran/Sorsogon City Water District presided over the meeting. He was ably supported during the discussions by Ralph Louie H. Rafer and Leandro H. Duque from Casiguran; Engr. Alejandro L. Alama from Sorsogon City.

Joining GM Tejada were GM Rey Dennis L. Gilbas (Bulan), GM Louie Azurin (Irosin), GM Ramil Fajardo (Barcelona), GM MJ Bolon (Masbate), GM Nanette Bufete (Matnog) and GM Alma B. Calleja (Bacacay, Albay).

The Department of Education (DepEd) Sports Managers also attended the meeting to assist the host water districts in the preparation stage. DepEd Sports Managers are the most competent and credible sports officials in the province that can facilitate the conduct of said Team Building Activity from planning to actual execution of games.

DepEd Sports Managers present were – Agustin G. Polo (Basketball), Salvador Gacis & Jared James Baeza (Volleyball) and Santiago J. Niemo & Jonathan G. Glipo (Table Tennis). They discussed, among others, appropriate game rules and regulations which will be implemented during the Team Building Activity that comes with ball games and the so-called Laro ng Lahi.

It was suggested by Mr. Polo that the 3 X 3 Basketball games be categorized into two, namely —  40-year-old-and-above and 39-year-old-and-below brackets. He reasoned out that this will make the games more enjoyable, competitive and will safeguard the health and welfare of players. It was also recommended that solidarity meetings be conducted before every game. The suggestions were well taken and in fact be adopted by the host.

Some of the innovations proposed by the host water districts and enunciated during the meeting were – (a) 3 X 3 basketball games, (b) Special Award for Best Participating Category C & D, (c) Mobile Legends games, (d)  establishment of Incident Command System, (e) strict enforcement of eligibility requirements, (f) live video coverage of some games, (g) announcement and updates thru Facebook and (f) Provincial Tour on the last day of the 5-day biggest water districts yearly gathering.

It was agreed during the meeting that the pageant – Tuberong Magayon be conducted again. Furthermore, the Coordinators committed to attend a second meeting whereby the rules and regulations be approved and signed. The host committed to post said rules and regulations for further scrutiny and fine-tuning.

With the Province of Sorsogon emerging as the number one tourist destination in Bicol Region, the upcoming BIWADA Team Building or Sportsfest is expected to break records in terms of attendance.
